Truman Doctrine

We are experts now (I hope) in containing viruses, but how to contain 'the communist virus'?

On this day in 1947 Harry Truman held a speech in which he announced his Truman Doctrine. This moment is often seen as the start of the Cold War.

The Truman Doctrine aimed to contain the spread of communism by supporting nations that could fall to communism financially and militarily.

'The communist virus' wasn't contained with social distancing, washing hands and wearing face masks, but by giving financial aid (The Marshall Plan) to Western Europe for example and protecting them (NATO). This is what you see in the cartoon.

I hope class 9 and 10 are paying attention as this is part of our GCSE curriculum. Perfect test question to analyze this cartoon!
